Something about London brings out the conceptual and abstract in some of the world’s most highly regarded designers sending models down runways in their latest fall creations. Overlays, sequins, and unexpected pops of color graced the runway at London Fashion Week and the following five designs by L’Wren Scott, J.W. Anderson, Louise Gray, Roksanda Ilincic and A.L.C. bring their ‘A’ game in true English fashion. Click for full view.
There’s something very Cleopatra-like about all of L’Wren Scott’s evening dresses, but the gold appliqué and embroidery on this dress added such a regal flair it’s almost as if the model was apart of the look. I’d hold on to this for a New Year’s Eve formal though, no other outing would really do it justice. Photo: Marcus Tondo / InDigitalteam / GoRunway.com
Roksanda Ilincic put pink on the map much like Simone Rocha but with a softer touch. The fabrics at play in this look exude a pale pink rose that on an early fall day is sure to turn heads no matter where she’s going. Photo: Filippo Fior / InDigitalteam / GoRunway.com
By far my favorite look from London, A.L.C. delivered look after look after look of wearable everyday leather and wool coats and flawless color blocking. Though two-toned coats are usually a huge “don’t” in my closet, this grey on khaki green gives us such a neutral canvas it’s almost as if they blend into one hue anyway. Plus, the pencil thin cropped leather pants are the perfect polished finish for fall. Photo: Courtesy of A.L.C.
The epitome of eccentricity, I did not expect the show Louise Gray put on. Nor did I expect Louise Gray to look like Louise Gray! A bit over the top and accessorized with pieces I’ll probably never wear, taking this look apart reveals its true beauty. Starting with the blue hued red-printed pants, I’m curious what these would look like with a plain stripped down classy white button up. I’m still a firm believer that one should not mix and match patterns or prints, but both halves of this look could easily be complemented by one solid, whether a neutral leather jacket, grey t-shirt, or a pair of denim or navy skinny pants. We all have at least one nun-like look in our closets, right? I have at least 2. I wasn’t sold on many of J.W. Anderson’s looks for fall personally, but several had a hint of potential. This charcoal angular cut slit sleeve dress paired with knee high boots for instance, might take this look up a notch. Maybe even a chunky leather belted waist… Photo: Marcus Tondo / InDigitalteam / GoRunway.com
